The effects of weathering and ultra violet light can be detrimental to the efficacy of some organic pesticides, breaking down the molecular structure when left exposed for extended periods of time.
DeterMite® however, has high light and heat stability meaning you can rely on the system retaining it’s efficacy throughout the course of normal construction.
DeterMite® offers “repellency” as a significant part of the dual action against termite and borer (including European House Borer (EHB)) attack. It has been conclusively proven that termites do not like to be in contact with DeterMite®. This significantly reduces any risk of termites crossing over the treated timber to find access through damaged or machined surfaces.
This significant advantage, coupled with high stability when exposed to the elements, is reflected in the requirement to only need 2mm penetration of the bifenthrin into the wood.
Other systems that rely strongly on the termites eating the timber first and dying as a consequence, along with having lower stability when exposed to the elements require a greater penetration into the wood.

Resealing any treated timber where the effective preservative barrier has been removed is good building practice.
